Know Your Authority In Christ
â€â€Daniel‬ â€6:14-18‬ â€KJV‬‬
Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him. Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.
Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.
And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his Lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.”
When those who had plotted Daniel’s demise revealed to the king that Daniel had disobeyed his decree, he realized their intent and “was sore displeased with himself”. He was angry and disappointed that he had foolishly allowed them to place him in this position. Therefore, he was determined to find a way to deliver Daniel from the punishment of the lion’s den. However, given that the decree had been made under the law of the Medes and Persians, he could not amend it.
The king’s situation provides a lesson for us as believers. Exercise discernment when some people around you offer unsolicited advice. Ask God to see clearly the hearts of those by whom you are surrounded. Not everyone around you wants to see you succeed.
As we continue to look at the passage, we see that Daniel was thrown into the lion’s den. The opening to the den was closed by a stone with the king’s seal affixed, so that any opening of the entrance would be revealed. There was no way out for Daniel. However, before being thrown into the Lion’s den, the king spoke these words to Daniel: “Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.” In this seemingly impossible situation, the king offered these words of comfort and faith to Daniel. He then followed up these words by praying and fasting the entire night. All music and food were set aside as he prayed for Daniel’s deliverance.
Right now, you may feel locked in. You may feel there is no way out for you. But God is able to deliver you from your den of lions. Whatever you are going through, He is ready to deliver you when you call upon Him, and will place others in your life to intercede for you, and to assist you.
The king had seen God work in Daniel’s life before. He had seen the difference in Daniel. Therefore, he placed his trust in Daniel’s God to deliver him. How are you portraying God to others through your daily walk. Are you committed to Him? Are you exercising faith in Him? Can others see Him through you? Can they see this victorious God working in your life? Do you understand His authority and the authority you have through Him? Like Daniel, stand in your authority today.

DEVOTION FOR 16TH NOVEMBER 2025
Give God Priority
â€â€Daniel‬ â€6:6-10‬ â€KJV‬‬
“Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.
All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.
Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.
Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.”
Yesterday, we saw envy take root in the hearts of the princes and presidents who were upset that the king favoured Daniel. We also read that they identified the one area they could use against him to plan his downfall - his dedication to his God.
Today, we look at the plot they implemented. These men encouraged the king to sign an irrevocable decree that absolutely no one should petition any god, or man, for anything during an established thirty-day period. Should anyone disobey the decree, they would be thrown into a den of lions. Unaware of their intent, the king signed the decree.
Daniel’s response was one of boldness and determination. It was a fearless one in the face of punishment by death. It was also a clear message to all who were seeking to stop him from communicating with his God. “Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.”
He knew that the decree had been signed.
He went to his house.
With the windows opened he knelt and prayed to God, not once, but three times daily.
Daniel never ceased communication with the Lord. Have you been communicating with your God in a meaningful way? Do you have an intimate relationship with Him? Or have you been offering hurried prayers? Daniel knew His God and loved His relationship with Him more than the king’s honour or life itself.
Ask yourself today:
What is pulling me away from my prayer time with God?
Determine today to give priority to time spent daily in the presence of your God.
