The Cross - Our Place of Grace

‭‭Luke‬ ‭22:66-69 KJV‬‬
“And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,
Art thou the Christ? tell us.
And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:
Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.
Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.
And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.”

The members of the religious sect were eager to destroy Jesus. He had condemned  their lifestyles and  their hypocrisy.  Therefore, "As soon as it was day”, they began questioning Jesus. “Art thou the Christ?”  They were looking for the explicit reason to have him exterminated. In response,
Jesus confirmed that He would soon sit at the right hand of the Father. 

He knew that He was about to fulfill His earthly mission.
He was about to suffer a cruel and shameful death.
He was about to shed His blood as the one time sacrifice for all mankind.
He was about to conquer sin and the grave, after which,  He would return to His heavenly throne!

The scribes and elders were outraged. In their eyes, He had committed blasphemy by claiming to be the Son of God! They now had a reason to crucify Him.

As we commemorate the trial, suffering and crucifixion of Jesus today, let us consider  the depth of what He has done for us.
Let us thank Him for nailing our sins - past, present, and future to the cross. Let us remember the cross as our place of undeserved grace and, may we not despise His  great gift of salvation He has made available to us.

1 Corinthians 1:18 states,  “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”
